As you know, LinkedIn is a social media website. It is here
you can find, stay in touch with, and meet new people no matter what the time.
Don't forget, the time is different in each area of the country. When it is
nighttime here, it is daytime someplace else. So you can literally be
networking with someone at 3am, if you are up that time of the morning. You
just have to sign up and log into the site.
Anytime you add connections for Social
Influence, you are increasing the chances of people noticing you
and seeing your profile. The more people you know, the more the people, who are
looking for people to do business with, will choose you. After all, keep in
mind that people work mainly with those they know and can trust. When you
connect with many people, this means you are known and people trust you.
When people first use LinkedIn, they begin by including
their current company in their profile. This is not the way to go. You should
set up your profile like it was an executive bio. This means including not just
the last company, but also any company you worked for in the past.
Make sure you add your education, affiliations, and any
activities you performed while doing your job. When you have completed your
profile, include a link to it. You can do this in your signature file of your
email. This way, when people get your email, they will see your LinkedIn link.
This will add credibility to your message and to you. Plus, if they want to see
your complete profile, all they have to do is click on the link in your sig
file.
If you really want exposure, any time you post a comment on a
blog or in a forum some place, make sure to include a link to your profile in
your signature.
As you go over your profile, you will notice there are
pre-selected categories like My Website, My Company, etc. If you select other,
you have the chance to modify the name of the link. If you decide to link to
your blog, give the link a name and a short description, so people will know
what your link is.
LinkedIn has an advanced search option that allows you to
find people that fit the skills you are looking for. By finding these people,
you stand to have a better match.
If you are looking clients, why not find the ones that you
can depend on, are loyal to the contractor, and can be trusted. It really helps
to find someone that has the same likes as you because you will get along with
that person. Having clients you can work with makes working on their projects
easier.
