How to Build Swimming Pool Decks

Above-ground pools are popular because of their price and ease of set-up. However, without a deck, the only access to the pool is a cumbersome ladder. Adding a deck will increase the value of your pool, and more important, your enjoyment. Pool decks are constructed of easily acquired materials, and can be constructed by even an amateur.

Measure the area of your deck. Height is determined by the pool's height. Length and width are determined by personal preference. Use the circular saw to cut the 2-by-6 boards to match your length and height measurements, and join them using lag bolts. Cut an additional 2-by-6 and attach it down the middle of this structure, lengthwise. This is the swimming pool contractors Whitby deck frame.

Cut four 4-by-4 posts to the proper length, according to your pool's height. Don't forget to account for the height of the concrete footings. With a nut driver, attach the posts to the inside of your frame, in each corner, using lag bolts. Be certain the cut surface of each 4-by-4 is flush with your deck lumber.

Cut and attach another 4-by-4 post for every 4 feet of the length of your deck in the same way as indicated in Step 2 . These will add additional support to your deck.

Position the concrete footings on the ground, according to where the 4-by-4s are on your frame. Use a level to make certain the footings are level.

Roll the frame over, into the upright position, and lift it onto the concrete supports. You may need one or two helpers to complete this step.

Level the frame and attach 2-by-4 boards diagonally, between every 4-by-4 post, using lag bolts.

Level the ground where the stringers will sit. Attach the stringers to the deck frame in an appropriate place, using lag bolts. Check that the stringers are level, then attach decking boards across the stringers, on each tread, using deck screws.

Attach the decking boards to the deck top, using deck screws. When all the boards are secure, run the circular saw down the edge that's opposite the pool's edge, and cut the boards to the proper length.
